Sayonara, 2016

And thank you! Thank YOU! The person reading this right now. I just want to let you know I really appreciate you stopping by to check out my blog.

I’m celebrating a tiny victory at the end of this year, and it has to do with you! My blog got more visitors in the month of December than it did for all of 2015! I want to especially thank my trailrunning Redditors and my running friends on Facebook for sharing the love. The positive feedback I’ve gotten from my virtual running community has really re-kindled my stoke for maintaining this blog.

So yeah, Thank you!

I decided I want to learn calligraphy. I thought it made sense seeing as how I’m a writer and am craving a fine art hobby to relax my mind.

So, I bought myself a feather pen calligraphy set for Christmas! I figured I would be able to learn in 30 minutes and write you guys this super sweet Thank You note, but you know what I found out?

Calligraphy is hard! And MacKbooks are so 2016…

Anyway, the year is over tomorrow! It seems like it all goes by so fast, but then once I sat down and thought of all the crazy shit that went by in this past year, everything before November felt like a lifetime ago.

My year in review:

  • Adopting Bruce was definitely the biggest thing that happened to me in 2016. Best decision I ever made.
My trailrunning buddy

  • I moved five times
  • I sold my beloved ’92 Dodge Cummins named Daisy now I don’t even want to say what I drive because it isn’t cool at all. But whatever, it’s practical. Until I find the right Bronco….
  • I got my heartbroken enough to make up for all the hearts I’ve broken. The score is settled, now I’m ready for an honest, healthy relationship. Just putting that out there.
  • I ran some sweet trail races and placed first in my age group in my third Headwaters 50k
  • I went on two incredibly epic road trips:
Wyoming on my way out to Colorado
  • I had the best summer living in Dunsmuir, CA, the most charming little railroad town on the upper Sacramento River. I’d run in the mountains all morning, spend the afternoon at the river and write for hours in a stuffy attic. I can’t wait to go back.
  • I volunteered at the High Times NorCal Cannabis Cup and met the dude Johnny Depp played in the movie
  • Blow.
  • A photo I took of my friend’s farm was published on the cover of Acres USA, with the story I wrote inside.
  • I accidentally started a minor fire. If you want the full story, you’re going to have to buy me a drink.
  • I left my job as reporter with Mount Shasta News
  • I drove an excavator for the first time:
  • I went backpacking in the Trinity Alps:

I did a lot of shit!

2016 was fun, but also really hard and full of sad times. Some things on this list were really hard to go through, actually. But I mean it when I say that I’m ending the year on an upswing!

Over the course of this past month, the intense bouts of depression and anxiety that were bringing me to tears throughout the fall have diminished greatly. I did cry today, but that was only because I was thinking about how much I love my damn dog. He’s so awesome and loves to cuddle.

I treated myself to some new (used) clothes, new makeup, got a new haircut, new business cards, and new tarot cards. I’ve been eating really well (with the exception of this past week- DAMN COOKIES!) But sometimes I think I need a good sugar binge to remind me how horrible sugar makes me feel. Is that what addiction sounds like?

I had the best time rocking out to the Bouncing Souls and Tim Barry at two different shows and catching up with my BFF over diner omelets at 3 a.m.

Early early bird breakfast babes at the Tick Tock Diner. The fact that it’s blurry makes it better.

I missed that shit about NY/NJ!

No, I’m not making any resolutions!

Personally, I think they’re pointless and most resolutions are just setting people up for disappointment. I have some running goals and some career goals, but I’m not going to bore you with them. They’re mine!

But hey, if resolutions are your thing, go with it! I’m just gonna try an’ be the most excellent.

I hope you all be excellent, too. Thank you, thank you, thank you for being here. It means everything.

{New Year’s kisses}
